Overall Objective
The Marketing Communications Manager will be responsible for delivering and coordinating a wide range of marketing communications projects within the Marketing Department, while also line managing a Marketing Communications Assistant. This is a hands-on role, the postholder will personally deliver much of the work, while delegating and overseeing tasks to their assistant where appropriate. They will ensure all advertising, public relations and communication activities are delivered to a high standard, supporting VADO’s brand and business objectives. The role requires strong organisational skills, excellent copywriting ability and the confidence to manage projects end-to-end, from brief through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Line Management
- Manage, coach and develop the Marketing Communications Assistant.
- Delegate tasks effectively, while remaining closely involved in delivery.
- Provide guidance, support and feedback to ensure quality and accuracy.
Public Relations (PR)
- Write, edit, and distribute press releases, case studies, and articles.
- Build strong relationships with journalists and editors.
- Track, monitor and circulate coverage internally.
Advertising
- Plan and manage advertising campaigns (print).
- Brief designers and manage artwork production.
- Negotiate placements with media owners and track effectiveness.
Catalogue & Collateral Production
- Proofread meticulously to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Support customer-specific catalogue requests.
- Project manage catalogues, brochures, and product literature from brief through to delivery.
Print & Production Management
- Obtain and negotiate competitive quotes.
- Manage suppliers to ensure deadlines, quality, and cost targets are met.
Third-party Relationship Management
- Oversee agencies, suppliers and contractors to ensure brand consistency, value for money, and high-quality delivery.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favourable terms and build long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Monitor performance of external partners against agreed objectives, resolving issues and driving continuous improvement.
Market Research & Insight
- Support market research projects to gather customer and competitor insight.
- Present findings clearly with actionable recommendations.
Image & Asset Management
- Maintain and organise the image library.
- Archive outdated assets and manage usage rights.
- Organise and oversee lifestyle photoshoots.
Exhibitions & Events
- Organise and manage VADO’s presence at exhibitions and events.
- Oversee logistics, design, set-up and promotional materials.
- Ensure events deliver impact and support sales objectives.
General Marketing & Brand Management
- Act as brand guardian, ensuring all materials reflect VADO’s identity.
- Write clear briefs and follow projects through to completion.
- Manage allocated budgets and monitor ROI.
- Support other marketing activities and cross-functional projects as required.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a hands-on marketing communications role.
- Strong copywriting and proofreading skills.
- Experience of managing PR and advertising campaigns.
- Background in catalogue or collateral production.
- Proven project management skills; ability to deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
- Supplier management and negotiation experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Asana (preferred not essential).
- Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g. Dot Mailer).
- Some experience of people management (or mentoring) with potential to grow as a line manager.
Desirable Experience
- Event and exhibition organisation.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and digital marketing tools.
- Experience in B2B or retail/manufacturing environments.
